BIO

Ethan Fielding is a composer, mixing artist, performer, streamer, educator, and video game enthusiast.  A formally trained theorist and mathematical mind, he strives to push the boundaries of possibility and make his mark on the unexplored corners of modern music.  Through the approach of combining mathematical relationships of the real world to music, Ethan created his newest work, X Squared- a piece that explores the considerations of square numbers in base twelve and quadratic sequences in serialism.  Given its precise nature, the piece is written for electronic instruments, and it will be premiered in the coming months. Recently, Ethan has also seen success in the video game world, releasing two video game OSTs for small-time indie developers- Setting Eyes on Mars (2022) and Carrot K. O.! (2021).  Setting Eyes on Mars focuses on the ethereal, with sweeping percussion pads and calming ostinatos- but not without a touch of his crunchy funk rock style.  Carrot K. O.! is much more traditional, even retro video game approach, limited to 16-bit information and minimal processing, all while still keeping the distinctive high-wire rock energy. Before the global pandemic, Ethan was very active as a performer, taking part in over ten different professional-grade ensembles.  Most notably, he was the principal trombone player for the Music of Brian Balmages, Vol. 1 (2020) album that was nominated for a Grammy.  He also participated in the same group when they premiered A Most Sacred Oath (2020) and when they were invited specially to perform a select concert at the Kennedy Center in the spring of 2019.  He also toured internationally performing the choir piece La Puerta Intima (2019), toured as a member of a Gamelan ensemble under the direction of Balinese Nyoman Suadin, and premiered one of his own brass quintet pieces, Iron Will, in his group Conservation of Brass in 2021. Aside from music, Ethan has spent a great deal of time bolstering the public education system, tutoring all levels of math from kindergarten number fluency to post-high school calculus II, including the math-related subjects of Newtonian Physics and basic chemistry.  A lifelong resident of Connecticut, Ethan firmly believes in understanding-based education and tutors to all ages.
